If you’re looking to climb some of the glaciated alpine summits, go
rock climbing
or some winter ski mountaineering, I can
arrange any of these trips with my husband Jon De Montjoye who holds
the UIAGM International High Mountain Guide qualification. This is
a legal requirement to guide in Europe on glaciated terrain, or on
rock above 1500m.
Jon is British, living permanently in the French Alps near to
Chamonix, and is a very experienced climber and skier.
Jon
has recently self-published a climbing
guidebook (Barberine Gietroz) to the local crags here, which is very
successful

Treks and courses
Chamonix
Zermatt Glacier Trek
This
is the famous classic trek across the glaciers from Chamonix to Zermatt. After a
day of instruction in ice axe, crampon use and glacier travel we trek 6
days to reach Zermatt. Accommodation is in mountain huts. This is a fine
introduction to the high mountains.
Multi Activity Holiday
This
is a 5 day holiday giving the opportunity to try several different activities in
the Alps. There will be a glacier walk, a Via Ferrata day, a day of rockclimbing and
a 2 day overnight mountain trek with a walking summit. Priced on a minimum of 3
participants but can run on 2 with a supplement payable.
Introductory Alpine
Mountaineering Courses
These
5 day courses cover all the basic skills needed to operate safely in the Alps.
No experience necessary although most people have a background of
walking/mountain climbing in their own country.
Priced on a minimum of 3 participants but can run on 2 with a supplement
payable.
Jon
also guides the glaciated summits in the Tour
of the Matterhorn, Tour of Monte Rosa and
the Gran Paradiso.

Private guiding can accommodate specific routes or summits to which
you may aspire, be they high peaks such as Mont Blanc or an 8 day trekking route from the
Chamonix Valley with spectacular views of Mont Blanc to Zermatt dominated by the
unmistakable summit of the Matterhorn.
Alternatively there are great rock routes on the towering granite spires of Chamonix
or the huge limestone faces of the valleys. After a trek with Hilary Sharp you could also envisage an ascent of a
glaciated summit, making use of that hard won fitness and acclimatisation.
Jon also guides Via
Ferratas which are becoming increasingly popular. These equipped rockfaces
allow the nonclimber to experience the thrill of scaling rock faces without
demanding the technical skills of rock climbing. A good head for heights is a
requirement ! !

Off
piste skiing, Ski Mountaineering and Heli-skiing
Whether you’re an experienced ski tourer, or just beginning to venture
off piste, there’s something for everyone who enjoys the thrills of the
mountains in winter: from beginner courses in the skills of ski
mountaineering to multi-day ski tours throughout the Alps, to the
excitement of heli skiing, where you’re assured long descents in the
best snow available.
