ROCK CLIMBING AND GLACIER TREKKING WITH JON DE MONTJOYE


If you’re looking to trek on the glaciers or to go rock climbing Jon De Montjoye is your Guide. Jon holds the IFMGA / UIAGM International High Mountain Guide qualification. This is a legal requirement to guide in Europe on glaciated terrain, or on rock above 1500m. Jon is Hilary’s husband, is British, living permanently in the French Alps near to Chamonix, and is a very experienced climber and guide and has recently self-published a climbing guidebook (Barberine Gietroz) to the local crags here, which is very successful. 

All guiding is for private groups – from individuals to groups of several people. 

Jon can guide specific routes or treks to which you may aspire, After a trek with Hilary Sharp you could envisage an ascent of a glaciated summit, making use of that hard won fitness and acclimatization, or a trek over glaciers. The Tour of the Matterhorn, Tour of Monte Rosa and the Gran Paradiso Trek and Summit include an ascent of a glaciated peak, usually guided by Jon.

Rock climbing is Jon’s passion and he will guide you on the great rock routes on the towering granite spires of Chamonix or the huge limestone faces of the valleys, as well as offering beginner’s climbing on the local Chamonix Valley crags.

 
Jon also guides Via Ferratas which are becoming increasingly popular. These equipped rockfaces allow the nonclimber to experience the thrill of scaling rock faces without demanding the technical skills of rock climbing. A good head for heights and a sense of adventure are requirements!
