Trekking in the Alps is my business and I guide all the treks (that’s me in the photo!). I’m
English and have lived in the French Alps, near to Chamonix, since 1990.
I have walked and climbed extensively in Britain, Europe, Australia, North America, Africa and Thailand. I trained as a Teacher of Outdoor Education
and History at Bangor University and spent several years working in outdoor
centres in Britain. I hold the British Summer and Winter Mountain Leader
Certificates and the Mountain Instructor Award. I also hold the European
Accompagnateur en Montagne diploma, which is a legal requirement to lead walks
in France, Italy and Spain.
The Alps are both playground and office for me, and I love hiking here. I’m equally
at home in the Mediterranean regions, such as Corsica, Mallorca and Provence,
where there is a wealth of great walking to be enjoyed.
I am also a keen mountain runner and have participated in many mountain
races, including the Mont Blanc Ultra Trail 2006, which is 158kms long and involves 8600m of ascent and descent.
I’m very interested in the flora and fauna of the regions and will be
happy to share my knowledge with you. I’m also knowledgeable about the history
and geology of these areas and am constantly improving my knowledge through
research and in service training.
I’ve written 5 books - "Trekking in the Western Alps", "Snowshoeing: Mont Blanc and the Western Alps", "Mont Blanc Walks", "Tour of the Matterhorn" & "Tour of Monte Rosa".
My husband is Jon de Montjoye. He is a High Mountain Guide and offers guided summits, rock
climbing and ski touring / off piste skiing. He has also written a guidebook to the local cliffs near Vallorcine
where we live. He guides the Chamonix Zermatt Glacier Trek as well as the glaciated summits in the Tour of the Matterhorn,
Tour of Monte Rosa and the Gran Paradiso treks.
